The Weak Week Week LVII (February 25, 2001)

by Russ Beland
The Week in Loserdom:
Is The Style Invitational really some conspiracy run by a certain monotheistic sect? You decide. In other news, TWW is proud to announce the winning (anonymous) entry in TWW slogan contest: "Quality Journalism Spanning Two Millennia (if you count right)." TWW is also proud to announce its upcoming interview with the Auxiliary Czar! Look for it next week.

Results of Week LIII* (Clueless In Vitational)
Summary: Losers offered up clues people might be one thing or another, with great results. The entries printed were rich and varied. You did good.

The Siberian Express: Greg Arnold, clime aboard! You were below the fold unfairly, but now you and "Miss Hand" are famous.

Score Losers: With the top-three point getters for the year all silent, this was the week the other traditional high scorers got to close the gap some. Witte, Genser, Beland, and Smith all had multiple points to emerge from the pack. Two months into the year and leader board finally assumes its traditional form. This brings TWW to a difficult point. Put simply, the Post has not met its goal of more timely and accurate statistics. This makes the Score Losers section rather difficult to write. We invite comment from the readership, do we stick with the Post, or return to Carnahan scoring?

Week LVII (Presidential Squats):
The Weak Week Prediction: It is still too soon to tell about the new Czars in town. Look for a wider range of entries to get ink, including some traditional Style themes but also some classy junk too.

The Weak Week Word to the Wise (WWWW) : The prohibition on sex and poop jokes is, we expect, not fully binding. Don't expect ink for the obvious jokes about their positions, but other poop and sex jokes are probably OK.

Russ to Judgment: On a one-seventeen scale, sixteen being best, Week LVII gets a:

Not a bad bit for a contest, but there is really not enough to work with. Two or three photos would have made it better. Also, TWW is just sure the Czar is sitting somewhere staring at the page shouting "Those fools!"

How Cool the Drool: On a one-five scale (where five is a stuffed mongoose) this week's Fun Ford Photo gets a:

A giant picture of the founder of the Betty Ford Clinic and her husband, on sponge board. That goes up at work!

The Week Link:
Week 126, August 13, 1995. The Auxiliary Czar's debut. The AC started off with a contest that featured four photos (hmmm), each with blank speech or thought bubbles. The contest was to decide what to put in the blanks. Peyton Coyner would eventually win an Elvis & Nixon photo for his efforts. What we guess was the AC's initial judging, of Week 123, was printed the same day. Some Losers claimed to see a difference in the judging; some even thought they saw a pattern. While TWW will offer no opinion of judging that happened nearly six years ago, we do wish to recall some of the first names of those who got ink that week. Katherine, Elly, Ellen, Cindi, Linda, Janice, Jil, Renee, Elly (again), Meg, Elizabeth, Robin, and Bevra, oh and first runner-up Linda, and winner Jill.s
