The Weak Week Week LIX (March 11, 2001)

by Russ Beland
The Week in Loserdom:
This was a relatively quiet week in the land of Losers. Everyone seems to have adjusted to the Czar's absence and is getting on with their lives, such as they are.

Results of Week LV* (50,000 fast pitches)
Summary: Ink went to a lot of regulars and semi-regulars this week. The individual entries were fine, but the overall effect was somewhat disappointing. Either the Losers failed to send innovative cutting edge entries or the neo-Czars failed to select them. Either way, LV might have been better.

The Siberian Express: For the second time in a row, TWW agrees with the general scoring (at least of those printed). The runners-up were all a notch above any of the HMs. Running to catch the train were Roger and Pam Dalrymple whose Mr. Potato Head sales pitch was the best of bumper sticker bunch.

Score Losers: here was lots of action in the 2001 standings. Genz and Caron each gained five points to move into double-digits for the year, as did Smith (who scored two). Strider had four points to break a moderate inkless streak. Beland moved into a tie for second (with Paul) two points behind Hart, who remains inkless for her (restoration record) fourth week in a row. Jean Sorensen pulled into a tie for fourth (with Witte and Doyle). Ireland's O'Byrne scored his tenth point of the restoration (third of the year) to remain the undisputed champion Loser of the Third World.

Week LIX (Comics takes their licks):
The Weak Week Prediction: This is a repeat of a pre-restoration contest. The results then were good, though the format permitted very few entries to be printed. Look for our semiprofessional comic writers (Smith and Sorensen) to do well and few, if any, new names.

The Weak Week Word to the Wise (WWWW) : Yes, yes, the kid in the first panel of Red & Rover does look constipated. You and every other Loser can try for ink with that idea, but high honors will go elsewhere.

Russ to Judgment: On a one-seventeen scale, sixteen being best, Week LIX gets a:

If it was an original idea, TWW would give this one a nine, but many of the good gags were used the first time around.

How Cool the Drool: On a one-five scale (where five is a stuffed mongoose) this week's sperm bank gets a:

Sperm is always a tasteful addition to any decor.

Coming before you know it: Overdone Overkill
Coming When you know it: Two Fords Parked on the Lawn
Coming After you know it: Headline Snooze
